Ice, Ice, Baby

As weird as it seems to think about Alaska being shut down by rain, the last couple days of a freezing rain has done pretty much that from Anchorage to Fairbanks and places beyond, such as Barrow. It's still coming down, btw, tho' more real rain than icy rain, tho' all it'll take is one evening of sub-freezing temps for it to turn into a sheet of ice.... atop several layers of other sheets of ice. Wild weather. In any case, this is my driveway this morning after the melt had begun. What looks like a normal puddle of ice right is melt atop a frozen puddle, btw.

Closer view of the ice puddle. The black of the driveway is also covered by a sheer layer of ice, so sorta like black ice. It's the sort that you can't see, so it's particularly dangerous. Not in my driveway, true, well, unless I'm walking and don't know it's there to be careful, but for driving.
